Back on the history and operation of the turbo

From the historical point of view, the invention patent of the turbocharger or turbo was filed by Alfred Büchi, a Swiss engineer in 1905. By definition, it is a centrifugal compressor that uses the exhaust gas. This technique of supercharging has been widely used especially on race cars. This is the case of the Formula 1 category where the use of the turbocharger was a revolution. More information on: The use of the turbo engine was the signature of the Renault manufacturer from 1977. What was a real success for it until 1989 when its use was prohibited races. Today diesel turbos are very popular. Indeed, many car manufacturers endow the modern engines with this system. Diesel engine turbos are made up of two propellers which are the turbine and the compressor. The exhaust gases from the engine are sucked by the first propeller and are sent by an intake system into the compressor. Thus, this mass of compressed air will then be injected into the engine, which gives it more power. Diesel engine turbos are used to make engines breathe better by promoting oxygen delivery through compression. For gasoline engines, they were less likely to be connected to a turbo because of the risk of auto-ignition when gasoline and air are compressed together. Nowadays calculators are installed on these to solve this problem.

Role of the turbo

The combustion engines produce a power equivalent to their displacements. These are the result of three elements including air, fuel and combustion temperature. In case one of these elements comes to be modified, this will have a direct impact on the power of the engine. Gasoline turbos have the role of increasing the volume of oxygen in the engine of a vehicle. This system will supercharge him and thus give him more performance. Turbocharger or turbo is not built into combustion engines. From the mechanical point of view, the latter is not connected to the engine block. Although it has an enormous impact on the performance of an engine, the turbo is connected only with the air intake system and the exhaust manifold. Its operation is based on a very simple principle: under the pressure of the exhaust gas, the turbine, essential element of a turbo will be activated. It will then deploy the gas in the other device which is the compressor via a conduit. This process makes it possible to send a larger quantity of oxygen into the cylinders. The turbocharger acts on the volume of air admitted into the engine. The combustion of the oxygen and fuel mixture is improved via the turbo. Thus the engine gains power without emitting more quantity of harmful substances from the exhaust gas with the combustion of fuel.

The turbo, find the right model

You have to know that a Ford turbo model too powerful for your vehicle will lose much of its efficiency and it is not really recommended from a safety point of view. On the other hand, a turbo that lacks power compared to the number of horses in your car will not last long under your hood. This device uses the energy lost by the exhaust gases to improve the efficiency of an engine and thus increase its power. This elementary principle has revolutionized combustion engines as it is now easy to add power to small displacement vehicles by integrating a turbo engine.

In the market, you can access more than 2000 models of turbochargers. Vehicles of the same brand but different versions do not necessarily use the same type of turbo. It is therefore unnecessary to consider transferring any turbocharger from another vehicle for example. It is then advisable to find your turbo by model and displacement of your car. The device will be much more effective. You must therefore check the year of release of your car, the number of horses and cylinders. If you plan to replace the turbo of your vehicle that no longer works, just look at the plate on it to identify its references. You can order a guaranteed model.
